All three of the owlets seem to have survived. They can be seen here in mid August but they don’t come out of their box until dusk so it is hard to photograph them clearly. They played the game of the squabbling siblings for a while - who could keep who out of the box, or at least make it difficult to get in.
It has been a joy to watch them testing their wings and their first flights. For most of the summer they have called to their parents from dusk until about 4.00am for food. They make an odd hissing noise; louder as they grew older.
They are all fully grown now and the box must be very crowded, although we think the older owlet may have already left home.
Hopefully we’ll have a good breeding season next year too. MS
